A true love letter to Lovecraftian horror, that gives fans both its squeeing fanboy moments and a legitimate take on a story of insanity and existential horror, the creeping dread of the game's first half is incredible as Jack Walters has to fight against everything and suffer tragedy after tragedy in his journey. The game, predictably, goes downhill as the action ramps up, as the paranoia gives way to having a clear idea of the villains of the story and everything becomes less interesting. Even Jack's inane banter becomes much thinner on the ground, stripping the experience of atmosphere and leaving only a somewhat tedious shooter-stealth FPS. Still, worth a look for those inclined and never really becomes boring.

I don't love it because it is perfect. I love it because the good qualities of this game are so good that flaws seem irrelevant. I was also lucky to not experience any game-breaking bugs.
Incredible first quarter but it really drops in quality. Still, 4 stars for how harrowing the first few hours of the game are, before it turns into more generic stealth/horror.
Also, high rating due to Greg Chandler's epic soundtrack, some parts of which made it on to later Esoteric albums, not even kidding.
honestly this game was so ambitious but they clearly ran out of time/money to make it what it should have been. i also don't think the gunplay is nearly as bad as people say, nor are most of the later levels. the factory was pretty dull, but the other later levels were good. the biggest thing keeping this game back is the countless bugs. i had to google different ways to get around multiple game breaking bugs, which kinda ruins the otherwise great immersion.
