Eh? I mean, revamped career and way improved interface made the career mode much more worthwhile, but I have never been comfortable with traffic checking. Giving you the ability to safely hit cars, even light cars from behind, takes away some of the difficulty and attention that Burnout is known for. Technically speaking, it slows the game down. It's still good, and maybe has the best Crash mode of the lot, but similar to Tony Hawk, 4 is where the purity of the franchise would be muddled.

Its Burnout baby, the supreme series when it comes to arcade racing and crashing your opponents. Unfortunatly, they made some changes to the core gameplay that ultimatly left Revenge being a bit of step down when compared to Takedown.
Visually the game is stunning, and i still dont understand the genious they must have pulled off to get this sort of technical prowess out of a ps2. It looks smooth as hell, and the crash animations are fantastic. The sense of speed, particularly when boosting is incredible, and this time you actually can look whats coming ahead of you. The sound is excellent as well, but i feel that the soundtrack is a let down. Its still the same mix of upbeat alt rock and pop punk, but i dont find the songs nearly as memorable this time around.
Gameplaywise they introduced traffic checking, which is the ability to check traffic from behind and use it to takedown oponents. It only works on light vehicles though. This really breaks the gameplay in the sense that you have a safe zone, which is your lane, unless you crash into a truck. Checking traffic slows you down, but ultimatly i dont think that is punishment enough. The game is way too easy and forgiving, to the point that i felt that beating everything was a breeze. Despite this, the sense of speed and satisfaction in getting takedowns still make this an excellent entry in the series.

Hell no. The physics are all messed up (takedowns are a pain to get now) and traffic checking is just terrible (particularly that godawful mode where you have to stop playing once you reach the targeted score because there's no "end run" option).
I like the game, but there's no way it's better than takedown.
Crash mode feels less like solving a puzzle and more like "did you hit the target car?". Takedowns aren't as generous. I can't tell if I prefer not having a douchebag DJ talk over tunes at the start of every race, though.
