I am not a big fan of first-person shooters, but Bioshock's gameplay is intuitive, engaging, and satisfying enough to keep me going for hours. The vita chambers make killing stronger enemies a bit too easy, but saved me from so many nervous breakdowns. Honestly, I don't like the cartoonish character design, but Rapture's overall atmosphere is fascinating indeed. While I enjoyed the gameplay, I have to say that the plot did not exactly keep me on the edge of my seat. Most of the narration goes by radio calls and taped diaries as you walk around, so it was quite hard to follow at times. It's an intriguing story with lots of details to provide insights into Rapture and its characters, but the way it was told was not the most accessible.

Bioshock was clearly contrived for a controller-and-TV experience; however, the graphic fidelty and frame-rate on the PS3 version of this game (can't speak for Xbox, but it's very likely the exact same) isn't up-to-par in the Year of our Lord 2018.
Experience the game on a PC.

i just came to the realization that the thematic significance of The Big Twist is that the idea of having your perceived sense of free choice, not just as a character but as a player, stripped away from you as something that never even existed in the first place, ties directly into the narrative's critiques of objectivist, no-limits capitalism
now i feel like i need to replay the entire game again for a refresher on what it was going for beyond "wow cool aquatic political dystopia"
