Desmond Miles is trained to become a modern-day Assassin through the resurrected memories of ancestor Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who uncovers a massive Templar conspiracy in Renaissance Italy leading to the new Pope.
It’s not too often that we see companies in this medium take chances on new properties, so it came as a surprise when Assassin's Creed came out in 2007 with record sales. While it was original in many ways, it was frustrating in many more. So, I approached the sequel with trepidation only to be completely surprised with the amount of detail, depth, and thought that Ubisoft instilled into the game this time around.
First off, the setting of Renaissance-era Italy has to be one of the most inspired and well-realized virtual worlds of its generation Even better is how the game takes you on a history lesson, giving you detailed backgrounds on real world locations and historic people you will meet throughout the game.
The biggest complaint of the original was the lack of variety in missions and locations, which isn’t a problem here. Whether you are chasing a group of Templars on horseback through the Tuscany hillside or walking the rooftops of Venice at night, AC2 manages to weave an exciting story with many great distractions should you ever get bored. The game manages to be an accomplishment that stands above being a simple refinement of its predecessor.

The game is a very good story that starts the eventual trilogy of Ezio Auditore. it begins with a not very mature protagonist that doesnt have a lot of respect for other people and is treating everything very rashly. Eventually, by meeting other members of the assassin brotherhood he becomes a much more thoughtful character who aims to protect the people he loves and the ones with no ability to do it themselves. The parkour is a much improved version of the one in the first game that aims to give the player freedom of movement. The stealth section is on point with multiple ways to approach the target. The maps are made beautifully with much thought put in the parkour elements scattered around it. Overall AC2 is a great game, giving us one of the most well known protagonist in video game industry, made with love by a caring team of developers and a game that will probably remain close to the pinnacle of video game parkour.

Like many people, I was unimpressed with the first entry in the assassin’s creed franchise. It wasn't terrible but was a one trick pony which is something this sequel avoids to its benefit.
While the core mechanics of the first game are in here, they're thankfully much better paced as our new hero Ezio has to use different strategies to not only track down his target (which have more emotional weight here due to them betraying him throughout the story) but also execute them as they're much clever both as Ai and in universe than the Templers from the first game. This time the story takes place in Italy from the late 1400s to the early 1500s rather than the middle east like in the first game. This means we now explore major Italian cities from this point in time which of course means many historical events are incorporated into the story, particularly those involving da Vinci who is a major ally of our hero throughout the game. It's a bit disappointing that the cities aren't historically accurate to what they were back then, however this is in favour of having seamless gameplay as well as incorporating the countryside of these areas to allow for diversity in the mission structure. Ezio is a much better protagonist than Altair, mainly because of his character growth as he goes from a cocky womanising little shit from the start of the game to a well-respected assassin who serves to protect those his enemies seek to destroy given how they took so much from him at an early age. He's also the main star of the show as the game wisely keeps the real-world events to a minimum as you only control Desmond three times during the campaign, this is made better that he now has the same control scheme as Ezio and Altair meaning there's stuff for him to do in his sections beyond talking to Lucy. I could go on with what this game has to offer, but that would make this review a multi hour essay, so I'll leave it at there being tons to explore from churches to tombs to villas both optionally and as part of the main story.
It's a fantastic follow up to an ordinary game, it's proof that any concept has the chance to succeed even if it was botched the first time which I'm sure was a lesson Ubisoft took to heart with this game’s success.

The best assassin creed game, absolute blast to play from start to finish, ezio in his prime, the side characters are amazingly fun too, got the platinum trophy and it was worth it, love the world building and sci-fi elements, obviously the gameplay slaps though it takes a minute to get used too. The result is a timeless masterpiece, MASTERPIECE!!!! ITS A-ME MARIOOO!!!. (10/10)

Yeah, it amazes me how jank these games feel when their strongest point at the time they were released was how fun parkour was. This only gets solved by the fourth game (Revelations).
Really love the game but it has one of the most tonedeaf AI and abysmal combat, preventing me from giving this a perfect rating. Still the best AC though.
Fun power fantasy. Lots of jank but also a very unique and fun blend of elements that was really fun back in the days and still has a charming atmosphere due to the lovely city design and Jesper Kyd's magical music
I think he's a very good character when you look at the 3 games. Over his trilogy he develops in a very natural and believable way from arrogant rebellious punk to revenge fuelled assassin, to powerful beneficent leader of the Brotherhood, then to a wiser, more introspective old man who ultimately realises he's barely a pawn in the grander scheme of fate, which is the total opposite of his egocentric almost narcissistic younger self that acted as if the world revolved around him. I'd say that's worthy of great characters in gaming imo.
