Apex Legends

For over 2 years now Apex Legends has been an amazing game to play. The legends, gunplay, THE MOVEMENT, and overall core of the gameplay are by far one of, if not the best we've seen in the battle royale genre. Along with Fortnite, Apex has carved out an identity for how the game is played. Fornite focuses on allowing you to build your own cover to avoid unfavorable situations. Apex on the other hand focuses on how you use the momentum from your running, slides, jumping/wall jumping to put you in a better position while combined with the abilities of the legends.

That being said, adding all the great updates, new guns, legends, game modes into the game DOES NOT overshadow the lack of attention to the core issues of Apex that has still been in since day one.

Horrendous Audio bugs: Whether it is footsteps, gunshots, abilities, jumping off buildings, etc. There are too many moments where you feel you're better off playing without your headphones with how inconsistent the audio is. A person's death box dropping to the floor should NEVER be louder than the guy running up right behind me. (I won't even go into the audio bugs for the guns because there are too many.)

Disgusting servers: At this point, you can add any word after "code" and I'm pretty sure it'll be an Apex server message. Without even bringing up the recent hack that occurred, there are many moments where Respawn tweets that the servers are down on the weekend or day, and they are trying to figure out why. The biggest crime is the servers they run the game on. 20 Hz servers for a game of this magnitude is one of the biggest cases of penny-pinching I've seen in a long time and is the reason why it seems like we get shot behind walls or when turning the corners. Trios have become duos and duos have become solos so unless you have friends to invite to play with you, get ready for some uneven fights.

Lack of real communication from the devs: Support, trying to get someone banned, Buffs and Nerfs, bug fixes, servers issues, or anything else you can think of. In an age where everyone has access to the internet, there should not be a reason to leave your player base in the dark like this.

Ownership: Respawn is under EA so that within itself is a big middle finger to anyone who has ever experienced EA's small peen tactics.

An amazing game that I love to play but has horrible backing for it. Unfortunately, no matter how much the game gets better with its new content, the issues are just gonna keep piling up until the overall player base can't ignore them anymore.

It's sort of my thing on this site to write my reviews short and concise but I really don't know if I can for this game. I'll try. Battle Royales are just not my thing in general, but I will say this is probably the best of the FPS Battle Royales. The game has impressive mechanics at most times, nice visuals and sound design, and smooth gameplay. You won't care though. You'll spend too much time being mad because of the subtle internal realization that the universe is out to make your whole life miserable to notice. What's the bad part though? The skill gap. Let me put it simply: You either play Apex for 3 hours (or more) a day, or you don't play it at all. For anyone who hasn't played it yet and is reading this though, I'll tell you right now, if you want to have fun, drop hot.

been playing since it’s release and it’s definitely changed since then in good and bad ways. A Team Based BR was fresh air plus with diversity was definitely what the FPS community needed. otherwise they need to fix story lore holes, sbmm, audio issues, and the way ea controls their game money wise. other than that great representation and somewhat compelling lore, but too much soap drama cliques in the way of the current love triangle and failure to explain further on half stories told. the amount of respawn developers leaving this year and last is concerning especially with the way the game is heading, with battle passes not even worth buying in s11, compared to s2 which was hyped and everyone loved the content: music, skins, new emotes, etc. A good starter pack, but now its like a ration of cosmetics and content. Plus fix titanfall 2 it’s the base of apex❗️

In terms of the Battle Royale genre, I believe I'd put the crown on top of the head of Respawn Entertainment. The perfect blend of boots-on-ground BR gameplay while offering so many different forms of mobility, defense, and offense. Each Legend plays to their own unique strengths and combined, you two (or three) Legends compete in a gun-glazing warzone to wipe every one else who would do you harm. It's fast-enough paced to the point where you're not overwhelmed, but constantly on edge of the next barrage. Even in the downtime of having wiped a squad there is always the possibility of another squad overhearing the firefight and joining as the third party, or somebody waiting for you to loot those deathboxes so they can snipe your head clean off.

All in all, it's a traditional formula with its own unique quirks. It's futuristic but not heavily so. Each gun plays different and some are 'better' than others. Each Legend is seemingly unique, with a select few borrowing certain qualities of others. Extremely free-to-play friendly, the only bonuses of spending money being purely cosmetic. Better with friends, for sure.
