couldn’t rlly play past a few minutes cause the controls are super clunky and it made me not really enjoy the playing experience. i’ll probably watch a playthrough instead

The wonderfully sick and twisted iteration of Alice in Wonderland the world deserves A really nice grim and dark setting, contained inside of one of the most abstract, insane, and nonsensical worlds. A twisted surreal nightmare inside the head of a raving lunatic. All of these beloved childhood icons being reinterpreted as sick and broken. I'm 90% sure American McGee was a goth in high school, because it's like he made exactly what I wanted. The visuals are perfectly achieved and use the most that the game's engine could handle for its era. Gameplay is fast, responsive, and smooth. Level design is brilliant not only in terms of art direction, but also in player focus and puzzle placement. The narrative perfectly fits with the reinterpreted Wonderland design. The music is perfect. Done by Chris Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails, and Tweaker. A must play for anyone who wants a really well designed 3D platformer.

Yeah, as much as I Iove this game for it's visual design and atmosphere, the gameplay is honestly kinda crappy. Both the platforming and combat are pretty clunky and unsatisfying while some of the enemies can be quite relentless and annoying to deal with (the Boojum, Nightmare Spider and Automaton for example). The second Alice game was a lot more responsive and visceral in that regard but unfortunately felt very bloated and not as interesting in other aspects. The characters and voice acting however I feel has been consistently good in both games. I almost feel like I love the idea of existing inside this game a lot more than actually playing it.
