Faced by the powers that be, Miles Edgeworth is forced to question his conviction as a prosecutor and make the right decisions in order to reach the truth, even if it means sacrificing his position.
Gyakuten Kenji 2 or as it is known in the west, Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Miles Edgeworth - Prosecutors Path succeeds its predecessor in every single way.
Ace Attorney Investigations 2 never released outside of Japan which is such a huge shame because of how great it is. The only way to play it (Like I did) is through a fan-translated ROM for a DS Emulator.
With that being said, this game trumps the first entry in every single way. The fan-translation and acting is done a lot better than the first, the story is extremely engaging, the cases all had excellent pacing, the callbacks to previous games are great, the characters and main villain are done excellently, and it has superb character development
The game is mostly the same as the first with a few kinks to iron out some issues with the previous. However, it does introduce a new gameplay mechanic known as "Logic Chess". It's essentially a mental chess game against a problematic and uncooperative witness and/or suspect and it's really fun and provides a fun challenge.
The music (Like most Ace Attorney games) is excellent and finding contradictions have never been more satisfying.
The character arcs for both the villain and a certain teenage prosecutor is well done and I just have to appreciate the level of detail the fan-translation is.
Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Miles Edgeworth - Prosecutors Path is better than the first game in every way. With great characters, translation/localization, gameplay, music, and an outstanding narrative.
I Hope Capcom releases this for the west someday

It's not always you have one of the worst games in a franchise's direct sequel be one of the best games in the franchise. Gyakuten Kenji 2 really is full of surprises.

One of my favorite games of all time, every case is peak Ace Attorney and it is very sad that this game did not get a western localization. Cemented Miles Edgeworth as my favorite character in the Ace Attorney franchise.

It's important to note that I, as someone who only speaks English, had to play a fan translation. I'm not 100% sure if some of my points will be a knock against the original writers or the translation itself, but I suppose you could say that about official localisations as well. The reason I bring this up is because I felt the dialogue in this game was incredibly flat. The Ace Attorney series is known for colourful characters and dialogue, but even returning characters feel flat. This may be how it was written, but I imagine an official localisation would have been more in-line with my expectations.
The main thing you'll see brought up to praise this game is the fact that every single case is connected. This is true, but it doesn't matter when every case is bad, except maybe the first one*. The problem isn't the story itself, it's the characters within it, and the game's love of senseless padding. From the second case onward, Edgeworth is hounded by judge Courtney and "prodigy" prosecutor DeBeste. At every turn until the last case, they try their absolute hardest to stop Edgeworth from investigating crime scenes or questioning witnesses. Every time you find out something new, instead of following up on it, you first have to convince these idiots why you should. The pacing is absolutely atrocious. People say it's okay because DeBeste "redeems himself" with a lot of character development. But character development at the very end doesn't make the previous three chapters any less infuriating. DeBeste becoming a better character doesn't instantly negate how awful he made the rest of the game, how much I hated arguing with his dumb ass about every insignificant detail.
By far the worst character in this game is Kay Faraday, who returns from the first Investigations game. She was fine in that game, but she is absolutely horrible in this one. In cases 1, 2, 3, and 5, she harps on and on about how she's a "great thief!" who has never stolen anything. It's endless. If you found Maya's burgers and Trucy's panties annoying, you ain't seen nothing yet. The same joke is forced into nearly every conversation, and it's maddening. The worst part is in case 4, where Kay gets injured, and becomes an amnesiac. She, for the first time all game, shuts up about her "thievery" and talks about something else. Then she regains her memory and picks right up where she left off. In a game praised for its character development, that's just ridiculous.
*The third case of this game could, in a better game, have been in contention for top five in the entire series. The dual perspectives and intertwining cases of the past and present works extremely well, the setting is fun and unique, and the case itself is very good. Unfortunately, you still have to deal with DeBeste, Courtney, and Kay, who try their absolute best to completely ruin the case. I really, truly wish this case had been in a different game, where it would have been brilliant without being dragged down by a trio of insufferably annoying characters. I am not joking when I say that I'd rather watch the Lamiroir concert video twenty more times than suffer through one more pointless argument with DeBeste or Courtney.
In the end, AAI2 is full of annoying characters, pointless padding, and a flat translation. It's like every single interaction is against Alba from AAI1. Long, drawn out, and annoying. It made sense in that case, because he was the final boss. It simply doesn't work when every encounter is that ridiculous. I was really excited to play this, and got right on it as soon as the fan translation came out. I was extremely disappointed.

I was not a fan of the first Ace Attorney Investigations game, so I went in to this one with lowered expectations. What I got was perhaps the best game in the series, though there's still room for debate on that. One thing that a story-heavy game like Ace Attorney needs is for its main character to have an arc that feels meaningful, and while most of the Ace Attorney games have done this, AAI2 does it particularly well. It is a story about Edgeworth questioning whether walking the path of a prosecutor is helping him find true justice. This was a dilemma brought up in past games of the series, but here you face it head on. Edgeworth solves five cases where his position either gives him an advantage or gets in the way, and the final resolution of the game, while predictable, feels earned. I can't get too much in to the complexity of the characters (If there's one fanbase not to spoil it's AA fans), but rest assured AAI2 has some of the most satisfying villains the series has seen as well. This game is also quite funny, and the fan translators did a great job matching the style of the other games' US localization. In fact, they wrote Gumshoe better than the real team did in the first AAI. If this game has passed under your radar as an Ace Attorney fan or you didn't even know it was translated, you should give it a whirl. Just download a completed save file so you can get through the text boxes faster. They are mighty slow.

Some characters from the first return to this one, but it's not really required as they kinda recap the characters well here. I personally really enjoy the first Miles Edgeworth but I'm kinda in the minority.
i remember playing MGS TTS [GC], MGS2, and MGS3 back to back to 'prepare' for MGS4 in high school, the plots of the previous games made no sense for my tiny high school brain yet what i could gather from all the previous connections in the series was that MGS4 was indeed Very Epic
really impressive how this is the only game in the entire series to not have a single filler case- every single one ties into the overall story and couldn't possibly be substituted with anything else
Didnt play this but when I started watching I was hooked and saw the whole thing thru that… god damn. PLEASE dont be a dumbass who spoils this for urself like me.
