WebOS was originally released as Palm WebOS, a replacement for
Palm OS on Palm's mobile devices. Internally, WebOS runs on a modified
Linux kernel. After Hewlett-Packard acquired Palm, it re-branded it as HP WebOS when installed on HP phones and tablets. HP would later release the source code for WebOS, allowing for the creation of what is known as Open WebOS, and license the technology to LG for its Smart TVs, which branded the system as LG WebOS.
Games for WebOS are typically played through a touch interface as has become standard for smartphones and related devices.
