THQ San Diego is the San Diego, CA development branch of
THQ. The development studio emerged as the result of
WMS Industries' purchase of
Leland Corporation and
Tradewest. While the Tradewest and Leland brands were largely phased out,
Midway Games continued to use the San Diego company's staff and facilities for game development under the Midway Games name. In 1997, Midway Studio San Diego re-emerged as a distinct company branch. The company and the majority of its assets were sold to THQ in july 2009 and the company was renamed to THQ San Diego.
