This company was founded by in Canada by investor Kevin O'Leary as SoftKey Software Products, Inc. In 1993, the company merged with Wordstar International Inc. and the Spinnaker Software Corporation to become SoftKey International.
SoftKey would acquire The Learning Company in 1995 and renamed the company under this brand and moved its headquarters to Boston, MA.
In 1999, the company was sold to Mattel, who later sold the company after large profit loss.
