Melbourne House
Game company
Melbourne House was originally founded in 1977 as a game publisher by Alfred Milgrom and Naomi Besen. In 1980 they established the sub-company Beam Software to develop games for computers. In 1987 the name brand of Melbourne House was acquired by Mastertronic, while Beam Software continued to operate independently. In 1988 Mastertronic was bought off by Virgin and published games as Virgin Melbourne House for a brief period of time. In 1996 Virgin let go of their rights on the Melbourne House name, which resulted in Beam Software re-launching Melbourne House as a subsidiary publishing company for the developed games. In 1999 Beam Software was acquired by Infogrames and renamed to Infogrames Melbourne House which consolidated both Beam and Melbourne House.
