Founded in 1980, Broderbund is an American game developer and distributor of educational software and productivity tools. The company was bought out by
The Learning Company in 1998. The Learning Company was then subsequently merged into
Mattel in 1999, who then sold The Learning Company's assets to Gores Technology Group in 2000.
Broderbund's entertainment assets (including the renowned
Prince of Persia franchise) were ultimately transferred to
Ubisoft Entertainment in 2001.
Encore Software is the present owner of the Broderbund brand name and its productivity and educational software products, continuing to use its name when publishing these materials.
