Mushroom Kingdom

The Mushroom Kingdom franchise covers Nintendo's broad range of intellectual properties with origins in the Mario [マリオ] franchise. The vast majority of games in the franchise take place in or involve the Mushroom Kingdom, a fictional setting ruled by Princess Peach [ピーチ姫]. The franchise was formerly referred to as Super Mario [スーパーマリオ] but the term has shifted to focus specifically on the core Super Mario platforming franchise. On occasion, characters from the Donkey Kong franchise make appearances in its All-Star franchises such as Mario Sports on account of Mario [マリオ] and Donkey Kong [ドンキーコング]'s shared history.
